Ashford & Simpson on CBS Sunday Morning

Like so many others i am still not over the passing of one of my favorite songwriters, Nick Ashford to throat cancer. As we all know he was half of the amazing songwriting team, Ashford & Simpson, a father, husband and a great role model for the black community. I look up to a lot of people musically but dont tend to aspire to follow in their footsteps personally. But Nick Ashford was one of the exceptions. He loved his wife, his kids, and his craft.
I found this report on them from my favorite show on tv. No matter where i am in the world every sunday morning i get up to watch CBS Sunday Morning. It is the best, most informative, well produced show on tv and i love it. Check it out, you wont be disappointed, and why not start with their report on Ashford & Simpson

Official Video: Picture Perfect

The song, "Picture Perfect" embodies a simple formula that i have always loved in soul music. It contains heartfelt lyrics passionately delivered over heavy drums and a memorable bass line. I feel the video does the same thing visually. It pays respect to the smooth approach of Nat King Cole and Marvin Gaye seasoned with the hip hop culture I grew up in. I would love for people to walk away from the video with the same feeling they get from the last bite of their favorite meal. Fulfilled.

Thank you to Phonte for collaborating with me once again. Thanks to the leading lady in the video Sepsenahki and huge thanks to my directors Jay Espinal and Derrick Savage.
Let me know what you think party people.....

The Beauty Of SOUL KITCHEN

My good friend Vinx has been doing this amazing event for many years. Introducing the Soul Kitchen. First Vinx is an amazing artist and if you don't have his music please find it... But he opens his amazing house to songwriters, producers, and artists to open their minds and create. My schedule has not allowed me to join them yet but I'm very inspired by what he's been doing and look forward to joining them in the near future. But check it out and feel free to support it in any way. This is footage from Soul Kitchen 2008. They are currently on their 25th edition.

Remembering Our Day

Three years ago I married my dream girl. It was one of the best days of my life and extremely beautiful. A lot of you have seen some of the pics that Essence.com posted, but since it is my anniversary week I decided to show you guys a few of my favorite pics from that day.

First off my wife was looking fine. Hahahaha..

My sister and mother's company, floral design company AlishaSimone.com designed the wedding and did all the flowers. They had everything looking beautiful...

Me and my boys were cool calm and collective. We wore chocolate brown Calvin Klein tuxes. Don't tell Hugo Boss okay...

Here's the table setting AlishaSimone.com did. As you can see our color scheme was brown and red.

Our bridesmaids looked beautiful as always.

I love you, Shawn and i pray i keep you smiling forever...

We got married at The Lake House Inn in Pennsylvania. If you are planning a wedding check them out. Also most of you know my label is a family business. Well i love the fact that my sister and mother are in business together. They are both extremely talented, so check them out if you are considering getting married or having an event.

Check them out at AlishaSimone.com or call (856) 437-0249

Celebrating the 10 year anniversary of my album Esoteric. It's amazing to see how much we have been able to grow from then. That album was recorded in a bedroom studio on a Roland 1680 and some amazing musicians and producers. Honestly at the time I didn't know what I was doing. All I knew was my love life was failing and I wasn't musically satisfied.

I buried myself in my studio for 6 months & turned my journal into an album. Esoteric - only meant to be understood by a chosen few. I never intended to do another album after Esoteric. At least not independently. I just had to get those songs out my system. I'm thankful for my fans who challenged me to take it serious & release more music.

It was mainly a forum online called soul24/7 where they forced me to do my second album. That's why I did the vault. Miss that site.

So my next album, mister nice guy will be my 8th album in ten years. Seven studio albums and one live album.

And don't let anyone ever tell u you can't do something. A lot of my peers that I was crazy for putting out an album independently.

NYC Come out & celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Esoteric @SOB's on 8/17

Strongly Considering Staying Suited Up This Album

This well put together video was put together by BBE TV for an event I did called The Park Unplugged. This was in DC and a lot of fun. Definitely check the calendar to see when I'm suiting up in your town.

Amy Winehouse

I've been a fan of Amy Winehouse since i heard her first album, "Frank". it was one of the best albums that year. From that moment i watched a very young lady slowly deteriorate before everyone's eyes. Sadly the news of her passing, though disappointing, wasn't surprising. A person can't be that abusive to their body's and last too long. So she passed at age 27. The same age Jimmy Hendricks, Janis Joplin, and Kurt Kobain were when they passed. Let me say this, the 27 club ain't a fly club to be in no matter how talented the club members are. Lets definitely enjoy the music they created, but remember how thankful you should be for the thoughts you have and don't have. Unfortunately there was an emptiness in Amy's system that her mind told her to fill with drugs and alcohol. Be thankful that you don't hear that voice that she heard. and if you are struggling to get that voice out your head, know that someone is praying for you to be stronger tomorrow than you are today. RIP Amy...

WE LOST OUR GIANT

Grandpop,
I sit here in pain. Selfishly i wish for one more chat on your couch. One more chance to kiss the top of your head, hear your voice, and see your smile. To ride in the back of your pickup truck with the wind blowing on my face. One more chance to see you give Grandma a kiss. Watch you hold my son I named after you. Tirelessly plant your harvest only to give it away. To have one more chance to take in some of that wisdom you have shared with so many through the years. A chance to spend time with you in prayer. One more chance to hold your hand.
But i find comfort in the wisdom you shared with me years ago. You said that life on earth is very much like the wings on a bird…That we must go through highs and we must go through lows in order to complete our journey. I know not everyday was perfect for you, but still you pushed on to lift God's name and inspire everyone around you. Including me. So yes today my wings feel weighed down with sadness, but I find peace in knowing your wings have lifted you to a place of Glory. Where you will now forever glide with God's love as the wind under your wings.
I love you Grandpop.

MY NEW FAVORITE GROUP

Let me tell you a brief story. While eating at the Pink Taco in LA with my family and friends a young lady approached my table and asked to take a picture. I stood up, gave her a hug and agreed to the pic. She set up her camera phone while expressing her feelings for my music. Clearly i was honored by the compliment and smiled for our snapping moment. I gave her another hug thanking her for her kind words and she says that her and her sisters just put out an E.P.. I tell her i would like to buy it from her. A gesture i feel is important for artists who are entering into the business of music to see. As i hand her the money and she hands me the cd she says that she produced and played all the instruments on the album. That's quite impressive i replied, goodbyes followed and i went back to eating my taco.
Got in the rental car and put in the cd.......
okay it never left the cd player til we turned the car in at the airport. Im officially a fan. enjoy KING...

Anthony David "4Evermore" feat. Algebra & Phonte Official Video

Here it is folks. The official video from my peeps.

He's not a NY Giant but he's a great player and i appreciate being mentioned. In a recent interview with his fans Kris Jenkins, Defensive Tackle of the NY Jets mentioned my song "Still." Thought that was kind of cool.

Bucky : What's your top 3 songs on your iPod?

Kris Jenkins: Oh wow, haha... I would say, during my downtime, I listen to Still by Eric Roberson, Jill Scott or any music that brings me out of the reality of this world and lets me calm myself. The pace of this world is crazy.

Check out more of his interview at http://www.profootballnyc.com/2011/02/jets-kris-jenkins-chats-with-fans.html
