Basketball Throwdown

There’s also another famous scene in WildStyle where Cold Crush Brothers battle the Fantastic Freaks on the basketball court. A couple sound bytes are taken from this scene as well. I believe the name of this scene on the soundtrack is called “Basketball Throwdown”.

Fast forward to Slum Village’s release of Fantastic, Vol. 2. They had a record featuring Pete Rock called "Once Upon a Time".

You can hear these clips from the movie if you pay attention. This record was originally titled "On A Mission", and showed up on white label before the album's release.

Part of being a Music Fan First is knowing your history.

Double Trouble

Being a music fan first sometimes allows you to notice the small things on a record that others can’t. For all the DILLAheads, Slum Village fans, & Hip Hop Heads here’s a fun fact for you.

In the movie Wildstyle, which is a must in all music fans collections, there is a scene where “Double Trouble” is talking about an upcoming jam. (For those who don’t know, Double Trouble consisted of Lil` Rodney C! and KK Rockwell. They formed this group after having disputes with their label, Sugarhill. They were originally part of the group Funky Four Plus One, who you may know from their debut for Sugarhill in 1980 with "That's The Joint". The group also included one of the pioneers of female rappers, Sha Rock. Another interesting fact is that Rodney C! would marry Angela (Angie B) Brown of The Sequence fame aka (Grammy Nominated) Angie Stone)

They talk about how they’re “going to rock them, because we got the fresh stuff”. The rhyme they kick in the scene is about the breakup of the group.

on the road again...

Good Morning Everyone!

As I type this, I'm on my way to the airport to fly to Dallas for my show with Wayna tonight. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing you all: one, because I always love coming to Texas and two, it is snowing up here! Can you believe it? Snowing on the first day of Spring! hahahaha I love New Jersey!

Okay, there are two important things to remember for today.

The first is tonight's show, of course. Come on out to have a great time with Wayna and me. For those of you who don't know Wayna's music yet, you definitely have to get there early so you can hear the beautiful voice from an equally beautiful woman. And, of course, you know your boy is going to bring it, like I always do! hahahaha

The second thing is to remember that today is the deadline to get your music fan photos in to us to be a part of my new album artwork. Yep, it's March 20th already; today is the day! We've gotten some great submissions, but if you haven't sent yours in yet, then we're incomplete!

Details for everything are below, so get those pics in and I hope to see you all tonight at the Bishop Arts Center.

Introducing Colin Emmanuel

"Hahahaha.. For the record I haven't finished the bridge but the song is
rocking. Hey UK I will be there first week of April." - E

Professor Henri Edmonds

PROFESSOR EDMONDS
One of the first classes i took at Howard was taught by Professor Henri Edmonds. In her acting class, I remember her standing in front of us and reciting her famous and memorable line, "It is not Show Business, it is the Business of Show." Well i believe its my business to put aside the show, and show some love to someone who made it her business to show her classmates how much she cared about them.
Professor Edmonds passed away on thursday, and i am quite saddened by that. But i cant help but think back how important she was to my development as an actor, singer, and person. Many people have heard me say its not the music business, but the business of music. Well now you know where that line originates. It was also in her classroom that i wrote the song, The Moon. Someone was reading a monologue and recited, "i love you to the moon and down again, around the world and back again" from the play, Nuts. I heard that line and an entire song fell into my lap. it was one of my first experiences where an entire song just showed up in my head, rather than me having to slave over lines.
I have often said i learned more about singing in my acting classes, than my music classes. I guess my music classes taught me how to sing, while the acting classes taught me how to be what i was singing about. Well Professor Henri Edmonds was one of those teachers responsible for that. I saw her last year and her main concern was that i was taking care of myself and my family, and that i was handling my business. I thank you Professor Edmonds, and i along with all of your students will miss you dearly.

Love Eric

this weekend...

So i had a busy weekend. Friday night i performed at a ski trip in the Poconos for a group from DC and Baltimore. Shout out to them and i hope to see you all at my DC show next week at the new club, The Scene.

I got home around 5am, and though i was quite tired my spirits were lifted when i saw a StonesThrow box sitting on my kitchen counter.
My MaDukes TShirt showed up and suddenly packing for my 10am flight got a lot easier.

So i laid my head down with a big smile on my face, and it seemed like the alarm clock went off right when i closed my eyes.

So i got to Miami around 1pm. I had rehearsal with the house band i was using at 3pm. Got back to the hotel and laid down an hour and then came and rocked the show with Jesse Boykins, III

I walked in while he was caressing a young lady's leg, he pulled up from the crowd during Pantyhose. If you dont know about this amazing young man check him out at jb3music.blogspot.com.

The show was crazy and i thank every one who attended. Check the MaDukes Tee out and remember to go cop one for a great cause at: RAISE IT UP FOR MA DUKES! T-shirt.
